Texas Parent to Parent


Grace's Note:  Texas Parent to Parent is also a website created by parents of special needs kids.  They are a wonderful group of dedicated folks and a great resource.  Texas Parent to Parent is involved with the Task Force for Special Needs Children that was created by the Texas legislature to coordinate resources for special needs kids in Texas.  They have a five year plan to improve and promote those services.  I am waiting impatiently....waiting..waiting...

Texas Parent to Parent provides a variety of resources, education and training to parents, family members, professionals, and others who share an interest in improving lives of children with a disability, chronic illness, or special health care need. To receive our quarterly newsletter, annual conference registration packet, program information and resources, we encourage you to complete a quick online registration form. We look forward to meeting you.
TxP2P provides peer support to any child’s family requesting it to provide help, information, and resources from an experienced, trained parent who has undergone a similar journey caring for a child with a disability or special health care need. We need more trained volunteers to keep up with the requests for matches from new parents. Read more.
As youth approach adulthood, parents face many issues assisting their young adult start their life after school. This program is designed to educate and empower parents, so they know what options are available. Read more.
Training and workshops are available across the state for parents and parent groups on a variety of topics. Read more.
The birth of a premature infant or a child who starts life inthe NICU is a challenging and life altering time for a family. TxP2P has developed a network of volunteers to provide support to parents of premature infants and babies hospitalized in the NICU. Read more.
Trainings for parents, siblings, self-advocates (youth or young adults with disabilities), other family members, and friends and interested parties to advocate for community services in Texas. Read more.
As a parent of a child with a disability or special health care need, you may have many questions, but don’t know who to turn to for help, or what to do next. We encourage you to “Ask Rosemary” and you’ll receive a personal response from a TxP2P staff member or volunteer within two working days or sooner whenever possible. Read more.
Once you’ve joined our mailing list, requested a parent match, or signed up to volunteer, you will have access to a host of listservs by topic and region to connect with other parents. Connect with as few or as many as you wish. Read more.
Access resources on a variety of topics and a list of organizations by county or region of the state 24/7 through TxP2P’s growing list of online resources for parents and their children. Read more.
Plan to attend this annual two-day conference each summer. Meet and network with other families and professionals who work with our kids. Attend sessions on advocacy, autism, behavior, parenting issues, special education, therapies, medical home, and transition/self-determination, and relax in a family friendly atmosphere. Read more.

Technical support and assistance is available for group facilitators who have an existing parent group or who wish to start their own support group. Read more.
